The Kill

The club was easily gotten in to, the plan had been gone over time and time again on the drive. Lestat would scan the crowd, fine the most wicked of the crowd, then sister death would go out and work her magic. To get the brute to a bathroom or the alleyway, where Lestat would be waiting for her to deliver them to the hands of gentlemen death. It was perfect, beautiful and the idea made his blood run. They would be a duo once more. It was breath taking for him.

------

A few days later Lestat was walking in with Claudia his face colored from the blood, tossing the ferarri's keys on the table as he moved and threw himself on the couch. Not thinking how Louis may be home. The fact he could hear him.

"You were spectacular ma cheri! He never saw it coming!" He loved the rush. The man had tried to grab Claudia as Lestat had come from behind almost to late but his teeth sank in and he drank until the body crumbled to the ground, then of all things he danced with her in the alleyway around the body. "You will be just as vicious when you are finally one of us again!" He was much to happy, the laughter finally came, bubbling like he had not a care in the world.

The next day Louis had slept in one of the guest rooms, too angry to be beside Lestat. It was not a restful slumber, and he awoke in early evening just as frustrated as he'd been the night before. He could hear Lestat moving in the house, likely preening and getting ready to go out.

It was just like old times, he thought grimly as he dressed in dull grays. Lestat gaily killing, drinking mortals to death with glee, sharing it with Claudia, while he stayed apart, mired in the morality. But the old times weren't what any of them had wanted, and he didn't intend to stand aside this time.

When he approached Lestat he didn't greet him, only crossed his arms and informed him "I'm going with you tonight."

The good times were indeed over. Louis' lack of pleasure in killing were but one of the reasons this hunt would be nowhere near as fun for Lestat as the last.

"If you're going to share the hunt, share it with me," he answered. "After all, we have the same need to kill." And Claudia didn't. Lestat didn't have to encourage her, not while alive.

And those would be returned with some very scathing criticisms. Louis slipped on his coat and followed, not warming to Lestat yet.

"A real meal," he repeated. "What are you hungry for? Did you have someone in mind or are you content with finding a victim by chance?" Either way Louis would go along, and either way Lestat would probably chastise him for being humorless about the deaths.

"You certainly seemed to have amused yourself lately." Of course as Louis delivered that jab he realized where Lestat was going and what he had planned. He could soften up and take Lestat's hand, or he could risk it on his own. "Where are you heading?"

"I am not. If you could've seen yourself last night, Lestat, you wouldn't doubt me." And how prone is Louis to exaggeration? Well, they could argue back and forth about that one for hours.

"A fair point." And really, the faster they got this over with the better; it'd no doubt turn into old-fashioned ribbing about his disinterest in the kill. Still, he didn't want to fly, had rarely done it without his arms around Lestat and found it jarring.

"I'm not talking about the drunken blood." That in and of itself was fine. Louis was generally entertained (or at least amused) by Lestat in a state of inebriation; the problem was how he'd gotten there. "You were playing games as the two of you once did. Playing with your food. And you adored it, plainly."

Not that it didn't make sense. Of course Lestat had wanted to share things with her (although Louis believed the reasons to be less altruistic than Lestat described). He was going to say as much when Lestat rose, and called after him before following. "What dangers will come for her? Who?"

"That's what we've always called mortals who kill, isn't it. Evil." It might be forgivable, for a vampire; there's necessity in their kills. A human who kills is just a murderer. Claudia is closer to evil for this than she was in her old life.

"And how will her killing with you protect her from Armand?"
